Presidential Candidates Violating Youtube's Guidelines? |
|
|
Five Presidential candidates appear to be in violation of the Youtube Community Guidelines. The profiles of Mitt Romney, John McCain, Joe Biden, Chris Dodd, and Duncan Hunter have uploaded copyrighted material from network and cable news shows. The Youtube Copyright Tips clearly states:
Anytime we become aware that a video or any part of a video on our site infringes the copyrights of a third party, we will take it down from the site. We are required to do so by law. If you believe that a video on the site infringes your copyright, send us a copyright notice and we will take it down.
So, it appears as if these five candidates are in direct violation of both the Digital Millenium Copyright Act and the Youtube Community Guidelines. Anyone else upset about the fact that politicians can get away with this but no one else can?

That's pretty funny, especially at a time when YouTube has been feeling a lot of heat from pissed-off corporations.
I thought so too.
It is possible that the candidates got permission from the networks to upload the footage, but I seriously doubt it.
Just goes to show the fucked up state of copyright law in this country.
^^ Agreed.
That reminds me, we should get a Creative Commons license in place for The Seminal.
I'll have to take another serious look at CC…its been a while.
