Political Poetry: The Definition Of Liberal

by Guest Writers  ::  Filed Under Music and Culture  ::  June 29th, 2007 @ 12:41 pm EST

In our continuing series highlighting poetry with a political angle, we have a series of imaginative haiku by Tim, written in response to the discussion of the definition of liberalism posted previously at The Seminal. Here's the first couple stanzas, just to get you started:

Of 'Liberal' And The Unjust Demonization Of A Perfectly Good Word

The Word 'Liberal'
Is Demonized By Many
Nefarious Trolls

Spoken With Venom
Implied In The Negative
Throughout Media

(more after the jump!)

Noble True Meaning
What People Aspire To Be
For The Greater Good

'Tolerant Of Change'
'Favorable To Progress'
'Free From Prejudice'

Dictionary Says
Not Authoritarian
What Is Wrong With That

In Bushtard Logic
Fascist Bootlickers Scorn It
They Can't Stand Good Things

I Can't Explain It
Any Other Way, Except For
They're Just Ignorant

I Would Say To Them
Pick Up The Dictionary
Read Definition

Ask Self, Is That Bad
If So, You May Be Crazy
Or Insanely Rich

Another Troll Breed
Intentionally Stupid
Wants To Keep Power

Some Corporations
Want Two Tier Societies
Rich, Poor, Nothing Else

If They Had Their Way
Sh*t's Creek, We Would All Be Up
No America

Take Back The Word Now
Say 'Liberal And Damn Proud'
True Majority

As you already know, I'm all for taking back the liberal definition from those who have mis-characterized it. True majority is right, as the dictionary definition states, who here in America is for authoritarianism?

People that dont know me and hear my opinions on the war and immigration will not hesitate to label me a conservative. And from the generic application, its true !
If the same situation were applied in my opinions on human rights , Marijuana legalization taking care of the earth or art and music , I am quickly labeled a liberal.
But I will not adhere to a label to make it easier on them or myself.
This juggling act makes it hard to be fan of, or join up with any one party. But it definatly makes for good thinking.
