The eternal optimist in me (or the innate journalist) has hope that Murdoch’s promises to Dow Jones shareholders will stand true. As many have said, the WSJ draws clearly separates its reporting and its editorials, and if managing editor Marcus Brauchli has his say, the division will continue.
However, Murdoch’s history with the New York Post and the Times of London may prove my hopes and dreams of preserving the integrity of the WSJ fickle. Needless to say, I’m disappointed but not hopeless.
I wonder if WSJ reports won’t strike out on their own, as the Times of London did when they started The Independent. Might be interesting if that did happen.
