As Alex predicted the other day, Syria will participate in the Annapolis Summit beginning Monday. Despite the lack of credible threats, Homeland Security and FBI officials have advised local law enforcement to be alert to possible terrorism attacks. Meanwhile, the Israeli Army is preparing for a “post-Annapolis terror wave” and Hezbollah has dismissed the conference as a media show designed to favor Israel.
Former Pakistani Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif has returned to his country after eight years in exile. He has returned in order to “rid the country of dictatorship.” He refused to say whether his party will boycott upcoming elections, deferring to an alliance of opposition parties, including his own.
Hillary was pressed on media consolidation, and in particular, her position on Rupert Murdoch’s empire. She deflected the part about her friend Rupert, and had encouraging yet vague comments on consolidation in general: “There have been a lot of media consolidations in the last several years, and it is quite troubling. The fact is, most people still get their news from television, from radio, even from newspapers. If they’re all owned by a very small group of people  and particularly if they all have a very similar point of view – it really stifles free speech.”
She then added: “I’m not saying anything against any company in particular. I just want to see more competition, especially in the same markets.” Tell Clinton to cosponsor The Media Ownership Act of 2007.
Just a reminder that the FDL Book Salon will be featuring John Anderson, former deputy editor of The American Laywer, and author of “Follow the Money: How George W. Bush And The Texas Republicans Hog-Tied America†at 5 pm ET/2 pm PT today.
For a preview of Follow the Money, see this from Friday.
As I said then, this promises to be a lively and informative discussion. John is a native Texan, and his insights on the backroom deals, long-time smarm merchantry and outright thievery would not be believeable piled together in a work of fiction. That they are based on factual information and real world actions taken by people who pass themselves off as leading political figures in this nation of ours is bad enough.
The Conservative era is over in Australia. Labor leader Kevin Rudd unseated unpopular P.M. John Howard, who was mired by his positions on Iraq and global warming.
Fred Thompson accused Fox News of being biased against his campaign. Chris Wallace shot back: “Do you know anyone who thinks you’re running a great campaign, sir?”
Kucinich supporters have organized a December 15th money bomb, trying to get 100,000 people to contribute $100 each to the campaign for a total of $10mil raised in one day. So far they have about 640 pledged $100 contributions.
So the video is a little cheesy, but at least we know CNN/Youtube have had some decent questions asked for the upcoming republican debate.
