They Just Can’t Be Trusted

by Jason Rosenbaum  ::  Filed Under Middle East / South Asia  ::  December 3rd, 2007 @ 2:05 pm EST

With today’s revelation (pdf) that the intelligence community believes that Iran halted its nuclear weapons program for good in 2003, Bush and Cheney have been wrong once again. In their never-ending war on terror, they consistently distort the facts, outright lie to the American people, and then are proven wrong. Let’s see here:

So here’s my question: Why does anyone trust these guys anymore? Either they are stupid or intentionally misleading. Either way, you can’t be wrong this many times, and at this high stakes, and still have anyone take you seriously. And I mean anyone. Why does the media still take what Bush or Cheney says as fact? Why don’t even the die-hard right wingers take what they say with a grain of salt?

Next time someone (the media, your neighbor, a Senator) quotes the President or his administration on matters dealing with the war on terror, tell them Bush and Co. are wrong. Chances are, you’ll be right.

Fool me once, shame on me, fool me half a dozen times…won’t get fooled again?

11 RESPONSES to “They Just Can’t Be Trusted”

I have never trusted these guys. Unfortunately, I fear that anyone who still trusted them over the past few years will never see the light. Some people just don’t want to hold their party accountable, no matter what.

go ahead, answer your own question.. “Why does anyone trust these guys anymore? Either they are stupid or intentionally misleading. Either way, you can%u2019t be wrong this many times, and at this high stakes, and still have anyone take you seriously. And I mean anyone. Why does the media still take what Bush or Cheney says as fact? Why don%u2019t even the die-hard right wingers take what they say with a grain of salt?”

tell, me, why DO they do this… find a real answer, if you are capable, then live like your answer is the truth about our lives….

and stop asking such banal, whining, pointless, silly questions… my gosh, one would think you would have figured this out long ago, and being doing else

Well, I don’t think there is one true answer, but here are a few ideas:

    1. Bureaucratic inertia. The office of the presidency is supposed to be “important.” Indeed, it is the most important in the country, or so we are taught. So even though our president acts like an idiot or worse, we are so conditioned to think of anything he says as Gospel that we just can’t ignore him. And indeed, even though he acts like an idiot, we have given him real power. Thus, he must be paid attention to, at least a little bit.

    2. The media business. In today’s 24-hour news world, the media makes anything into a story. They can spin out anything the President says into hours of news, which they can then make a lot of advertising dollars on. It’s all about the money.

What about you, what is your answer to my question?

the choices were either, stupid, or intentionally misleading…. bit of both, and neither, a larger dynamic is at play, but one that requires an understanding of group mind, group consciousness, and our culture doesn’t have the vocabulary for that…. but my point is, and the tone was a bit rough, perhaps, sorry, we really NEED to stop paying attention to the media, and the false reality they present, the false choices, the ridiculousness of the political stories (the contest, rather than the issues), the celebrity stuff…. we will never climb out of the hole we are in if we buy into the reality the media presents, be im-mediate, so… to conclude, don’t consume their product, it isn’t good for you… and live from your own mind, your own innate non-mediated wisdom… enjoy, gregory

Agreed. The media needs reform, and indeed, it is getting reform whether it likes it or not.

Think about it logically for a moment.

If they did discontinue their nuclear weapons program 4 years ago then the Bush policies must have worked.

Why does anybody give any credibility to the anti-war crowd.

Either YOU are stupid or you are intentionally misleading people!!!

Ok, so what happened in 2003? We invaded Iraq. So, the Bush solution to nuclear proliferation is to invade that country’s neighbor and start an unending war in the region. Fucking brilliant. I wish I’d thought of that.

It%u2019s not about honesty or truth anymore. Just about which fascist party you want to belong too!

oh Kevin…Kevin.

Bush-et al HAD no ‘policies’ at that time!

Only contracts. For weapons.

Its called profit. From war.

More war, more profit.
