India’s nuclear ambitions, Collision course with Iran?, CIA tapes (again), Chelsea joins campaign trail

With all eyes on national intelligence estimates about Iran, India’s nuclear ambitions have fallen off the radar so to speak, but scientists there have said their “Advanced Technology Vessel”–code name for a submarine that can launch nuclear-tipped ballistic missiles–will be ready for trials by 2009.

Despite the update on its nuclear activity, is the US still headed toward war with Iran?

Remember those interrogation tapes we learned earlier this week the CIA destroyed? According to new information, it appears as if the White House and Justice Department officials encouraged the CIA to keep those tapes and advised it against destroying evidence of hundreds of hours of interrogation.

Destruction of the tapes could alter prosecutions of alleged Al Qaeda operatives and inquiries have commenced.

Over at HuffPo, Senator Kennedy weighs in on what this evidence means for US intelligence operations and White House hypocrisy—destroying records of its own communications and activities while continuing to collect and retain communication records of its citizens. Still think telecoms should have immunity for contributing to this game?

The Clinton Campaign is receiving much attention from the NY Times today (Obama got the attention last week). Pulling out all the stops in Iowa, daughter Chelsea Clinton has joined her mom on the campaign trail. Can she act as a counterweight to Oprah’s Obama endorsement?
