Taylor on Trial, Iran and US Skirmish, IMF Burdens Borrowers, New Hampshire Primary Drinking Game

by Alex Hanna  ::  Filed Under Daily Briefing  ::  January 7th, 2008 @ 2:33 pm EST

Charles Taylor, former President of Liberia, has begun his war crimes trial in The Hague for crimes against humanity. Hopefully this goes somewhere.

Iran and the US almost get into a skirmish off the coast of Iran. The same story occurred when the British sailors were captured: Iran says they were in Iranian waters, while the US says they were in international waters. While Iran is boasting of this event, the US will probably turn this into another strike against Iran and for a future war with that country.

In international finance news, the International Monetary Fund’s internal watchdog has reported that continues to burden its borrowers with superfluous demands. Suffice to say, people in countries receiving IMF aid have known this for years.

In Election 2008 news:

A nonpartisan group of politicians met in Oklahoma today to discuss an independent way for the Federal government. Highlighting this event was Michael Bloomberg, who is gettting oh-so-close to throwing his hat into the race to the White House. You can watch the event via C-SPAN.

My boy Kucinich sues to get on the Texas ballot after claiming that a “Loyal Oath” was unlawful. This said oath requires that all non-nominated presidential candidates from the Party unequivocally support the Democratic nominee. Sounds like a load of shit to me, too.

And just when you thought the election couldn’t get more mind-numbing, I give to you, the New Hampshire primary drinking game!

It’s all very simple:
Based on the placement of each candidate, you have to drink the inverse number of drinks of their placement. For instance, a Democratic candidate places first, then you must drink 6 times of his/her specified drink. If his/her place second, then you drink 5 times, etc.

As for the drinks –
Democrats:
Barack Obama - Johnny Walker — at least Black Label — on the rocks
Hillary Clinton - Bloody Mary
John Edwards - Southern Comfort and lemonade on the rocks
Bill Richardson - Tequila sunrise
Dennis Kucinich - Vodka martini with Belvedere (hey, if he does well, you should certainly break out the good stuff)
Mike Gravel - shotgun an Old Milwaukee

Republicans:
Mike Huckabee - Manischewitz kosher wine (or similar wine used for the Eucharist)
John McCain - Whiskey Sour
Mitt Romney - Red bull and vodka (preferably the cheapest vodka you can find)
Rudy Giuliani - Appletini with a little plane floating on top
Ron Paul - Goldschlager
Fred Thompson - Cognac on the rocks while shouting racist epithets
Duncan Hunter - Tequila and tobasco
Alan Keyes - O’Douls

So, what, 6 shots of Johnny Walker Black then for me tomorrow?

Alex Hanna says  ::  January 7th, 2008 @ 5:51 pm EST

I was thinking more like 6 sips of one drink on the rocks. So I’d just go ahead and drink a whole Johnny Walker Black, then when you get down more, like with Richardson, perhaps take a shot of tequila then a shot of orange juice.
