New Poll: More Violence In Iraq?

by Jason Rosenbaum  ::  Filed Under Middle East / South Asia  ::  January 8th, 2008 @ 12:45 pm EST

This week, we want to know whether you think the recent downturn in violence in Iraq will hold. But first, last week’s results:

Last week, we asked you if you thought 2008 would be better than 2007. Always optimistic, 49% of you thought 2008 would indeed be a better year. 34% thought 2008 would be worse, while 16% thought things would be about the same. I count myself with the optimists.

This week, as we head into the new year, keeping in mind that violence in Iraq traditionally rises as winter gives way to spring and that no significant political progress has yet been made, will the fragile downturn in violence we’ve been seeing hold through the summer? Or will the “cease-fire” give way to more killings? Voting begins in the sidebar at right.

One RESPONSE to “New Poll: More Violence In Iraq?”

Joey says  ::  January 10th, 2008 @ 8:25 am EST

The situation is so fickle that I don’t think we can accurately say that violence will decrease given that the nature of things can change so dramatically so quickly. Overall though I agree that violence will ‘level out’ slowly barring any unforeseen upheaval. Violence has decreased before only for the situation to quickly turn dire again. I hope for everyone’s sake though that this time the decrease is a sign of things to come and not just a blip on the radar.
