Bush in the Middle East, Ethnic Tensions in Pakistan, World’s Cheapest Car, Kenya’s Economy

by Alex Thurston  ::  Filed Under Daily Briefing  ::  January 9th, 2008 @ 10:17 am EST

Bush kicks off a visit to the Middle East today, stopping first in Israel and holding a press conference with Olmert. More on this later today. Meanwhile, Iran accuses the US of faking the video of this weekend’s naval follies.

Ethnic tensions in Pakistan smolder.

On Thursday, Tata motors, an Indian company, will release the world’s cheapest car.

Kenya: It’s not “tribal conflict”: “It’s the economy, stupid.”

China freezes energy prices to hold down inflation, and “bans free plastic shopping bags.”

Non-NH:

Wired Blog network has a post in response to Pervez Musharraf’s appearance on the tv-show 60 Minutes in which he claimed Pakistan is not particularly looking for Osama bin Laden (despite billions in U.s. aid to perform that task…).

Further evidence that the U.S. needs to stop fooling itself about Musharraf’s value as an ally…
