What the Crazies Believe

by lgs  ::  Filed Under Religion and Politics  ::  January 9th, 2008 @ 9:59 am EST

From time to time my contacts working from within the Conservative movement pass me information they think I’ll find useful / entertaining. Here’s the latest; an email that, in tracing the thread, I could see had been sent to over a thousand others, who in turn probably forwarded it to all their conservative acquaintances.

The following is the content of that email, which they claim as “real and verified.” Their stated method of verification is snopes.com, an urban legend website that refutes the slander, and offers rebuttals to the claims. A strange verification indeed.

THIS IS REAL AND VERIFIED

Who is Barack Obama? A presidential candidate, unbelievable. Some Americans will actually vote for him-

Very interesting and something that should be considered in your choice.

If you do not ever forward anything else, please forward this to all your contacts…this is very scary to think of what lies ahead of us here in our own United States…better heed this and pray about it and share it.

We checked this out on ” snopes.com”. It is factual. Check for yourself.

Who is Barack Obama?

Probable U. S. presidential candidate, Barack Hussein Obama was born in Honolulu , Hawaii , to Barack Hussein Obama, Sr., a black MUSLIM from Nyangoma-Kogel , Kenya and Ann Dunham, a white ATHIEST from Wichita , Kansas.

Obama’s parents met at the University of Hawaii When Obama was two years old, his parents divorced. His father returned to Kenya . His mother then married Lolo Soetoro, a RADICAL Muslim from Indonesia.? When Obama was 6 years old, the family relocate to Indonesia . Obama attended a MUSLIM school in Jakarta . He also spent two years in a Catholic school.

Obama takes great care to conceal the fact that he is a Muslim. He is quick to point out that, “He was once a Muslim, but that he also attended Catholic school.”

Obama’s political handlers are attempting to make it appear that he is not a radical.

Obama’s introduction to Islam came via his father, and that this influence was temporary at best. In reality, the senior Obama returned to Kenya soon after the divorce, and never again had any direct influence over his son’s education.

Lolo Soetoro, the second husband of Obama’s mother, Ann Dunham, introduced his stepson to Islam. Obama was enrolled in a Wahabi school in Jakarta.

Wahabism is the RADICAL teaching that is followed by the Muslim terrorists who are now waging Jihad against the western world. Since it is politically expedient to be a CHRISTIAN when seeking major public office in the United States, Barack Hussein Obama has joined the United Church of Christ in an attempt to downplay his Muslim
background. ALSO, keep in mind that when he was sworn into office he DID NO T use the Holy Bible, but instead the Koran.

Barack Hussein Obama will NOT recite the Pledge of Allegience nor will he show any reverence for our flag. While others place their hands over their hearts, Obama turns his back to the flag and slouches. Let us all remain alert concerning Obama’s expected presidential candidacy.

The Muslims have said they plan on destroying the US from the inside out, what better way to start than at the highest level - through the President of the United States, one of their own!!!!

Please forward to everyone you know. Would you want this man leading our country?…… NOT ME!!!

I’m waiting for the email that uncovers the truth about Thomas Jefferson; that he was a radical who advocated revolution, and owned a Koran that was subsequently held by the first Muslim US Congressman as he was sworn into office. Proof that we should disavow the constitution and just live by the golden rule, something so many American Christians so perfectly exemplify.

That’s kind of funny. I lean conservative myself but I like Obama right now out of all the front-runners. Not because I agree with his policies, but because he’s the only one with the guts to put real detailed proposals on his website.

it’s really funny the level of political debate people engage in, at all points of the political spectrum. Of course there are conservatives who make compelling arguments against obama, but this certainly isn’t one them.

I don’t like Obama because he’s Muslim. I don’t like him because he’s black. I don’t like him because his parent’s are interracial. I don’t like him because his voice sounds like a freshly made potato salad. Why not just say it? Cowards.

I’m confused about how this message is supposed to make me hate Obama. If the biggest problems plaguing American foreign policy are tied to Islamism and extremism, wouldn’t experience with Islam and with Western Judeo-Christian traditions make Obama a more capable leader?

This inflammatory logic baffles me.

Bingo! If electing a woman or a black man president is breaking a glass ceiling for the first time in our history, imagine how long it will take to elect a Muslim president.

The fact that people are spreading this inaccurate information is detestable. Obviously Snopes is not a dependable source. I easily found accurate information as well as pictures stating Obama used his very own Bible at his swearing in. The lengths people will go to no longer amaze me. To try to sway people with racial statements and lies is immature and counterproductive. The author needs to realize that lying and making outlandish statements only adds credibility to the defendant and distrust for themselves.

I loved what the latest ‘Daily Show’ episode did with this, in light of Brian Williams bringing the content of this email to a round-table discussion between Presidential hopefuls at the Nevada Democratic debate.

Mocking Williams, Jon Stewart redelivered the inquiry raised regarding this email in a way that points out the media’s complete lack of journalistic integrity and/or seriousness toward its role as the public mediator:

“How do you defend yourself against these… anonymous people who’ve clearly… typed shit up and hit send?”

Who, pray tell, thought that bringing this maliciously fabricated piece of liabelous internet trash to the public conversation was a good idea? At best it eats time away from asking serious questions that actually have pertinence to the political race at hand, and at worst it actually lends credence to what would otherwise be viewed as a series of bigotous, and bullshit claims too ridiculous to waste breath entertaining.

All I can say is: Enjoy the show, people. Because that’s all it is.

I don’t like Obama…and the reason is none of your damned business. If I don’t like him because he’s black, that’s my right. If you like him, that’s your right. Fact is I don’t like him because I don’t like fake people, and I think he’s fake. Where’s my proof…I don’t need damned proof, it’s my opinion…and I’ll vote that way as well. SO FU.

Why so defensive? The haters are always so quick to talk about rights…as though bloggers were going to take them away. If you don’t like Obama, that’s fine. If you don’t like him because of his race, on the other hand, then that’s sad. It is, after all, 2008.

In case anyone forgot, as it seems more than a few have, this article pertains to an anonymous coward circulating manufactured realities in an attempt to affect the same kind of soft-minded people who changed their votes based on what the corporately sponsored “Swift Boat Veterans” were passing off as truth back in the day.

Whether an individual votes for or against any candidate is irrelevant to this topic. Can we not agree that spreading lies and fabrications while hiding cowardly behind unsigned, unclaimed statements is not of benefit to the democratic process?
