Fact-Checking the State of the Union, Kenyan Politician Killed, Obama Endorsements, McJob Training, California Feebates

In a glorious display of journalism, NPR picks apart the President’s big speech. (As does Think Progress.)

Mugabe Were, who today became the first politician claimed by the violence in Kenya, was a young Member of Parliament with lots of potential.

Ted Kennedy (the “other” silver-haired father figure of the Democratic Party) and Toni Morrison (who once called Bill Clinton America’s “first black president”) both endorsed Barack Obama this week.

Not to be forgotten…five more American soldiers were killed yesterday in Northern Iraq.

From the UK: In a disturbing twist on privatizing the education system, McDonald’s has been allowed to introduce its very own A-level, a nationally-recognized “McQualification” in “basic shift management,” into British secondary schools. (A-levels are one- or two-year courses in specific subjects, three of which generally equal a high school diploma in the British education system.)

In good form, California may soon be introducing a “feebate” system to make polluting cars more expensive.

And in the spirit of the State of the Union, an amusing (though disturbingly spot-on) parody of one of Bush’s early addresses:
