Blogroll Amnesty Day |

It’s not secret, blogging takes work. I have two jobs, my “real” job that pays the bills, and then this project here, The Seminal, which takes up just about the same amount of my time. Writing pieces, promoting them throughout the web, reading other blogs, and developing this site is a huge amount of work, and everyone who writes here does so at great personal sacrifice.
I’m proud to say The Seminal is well read, and our audience is growing. Still, we started from nothing like any other blogger. While we try to link to as many other blogs as we can and spread the wealth around, today we hope to make that a bit more explicit.
Today is the 2nd annual Blogroll Amnesty Day. Jon Swift, the mastermind behind this celebration, has a bit of history for those who are interested. He also lays out the ethos behind this:
Let’s recognize that building an inclusive community of diverse voices is what the blogosphere should be about, not creating a new elite to replace the old mainstream media elite. This year there were a number of stories that the big blogs missed that were being covered by smaller blogs such as the Jena 6 and the situation in Burma. I hope someday that Atrios and other A-List bloggers will join us in recognizing that they could learn a lot from reading smaller blogs rather than getting all of their news from a few limited sources. And instead of attacking big blogs or each other, I hope smaller blogs will take this opportunity to expose themselves to other voices that often don’t get heard.
In that spirit, here are a few blogs that I read that I feel you should read too. Bookmark their sites, add their feed to your feed reader, and check back often. The coverage is in-depth, the commentary is great, and the communities are unique.
Brad Blog: Blogging about all things progressive, especially the New Hampshire election recount and the Sibel Edmonds case. Always fascinating and in-depth.
Hold Fast: From Matt Browner-Hamlin, one half of Chris Dodd’s amazing Internet team, a discussion of politics and especially the ongoing FISA battle in Congress.
The Intrepid Liberal Journal: Always a favorite of mine, with great podcasts and interviews with leading authors and liberal personalities.
Archpundit: Blogging the horserace and Illinois politics with a big helping of opinion.
Skippy the Bush Kangaroo: Another participant in Blogroll Amnesty Day and a great source for videos as well as political opinion.
Frameshop: Jeffery Feldman lays out great rhetorical devices on today’s hot issues, all in the spirit of his highly recommended book, Framing The Debate.
Town Called Dobson: Progressive cartoons? Check.
There are tons of worthy blogs I’ve skipped, of course, but these are just some of my favorites. If you’ve got any to add to the project, feel free to write your own post or leave some links in the comments. And if you want to be added to our blogroll (which follows the same “liberal” guidelines as Jon Swift), just ask!
Otherwise, happy Blog Amnesty Day!

Jason, you are a prince. My other tow blogs residentreader.blogspot.com and clarkspicks.com could both do with a little linkage. They each serve a very different purpose, but hopefully will find favor with your readership.
Jeez, I sound like Jon Swift, here.
Both have been added, of course! Thanks for dropping by.
Many thanks for including me your blog amnesty. You sum up well the challenge of juggling blogging with life obligations such as work as well as the ultimate goal of building and inclusive community.
thanks for particpating, jason!
Greetings! The spirit of B.A.D. is a fantastic (and contagious) thing. You have been blogrolled. We have been running an open door policy this weekend as well. Happy B.A.D.!
