Midday Open Thread: Protests in Gaza, NY Philharmonic in North Korea, Oscar Roundup |
|
|
Gazans are holding a protest along the Gaza-Israeli border against the Israeli blockade. Although the protest has been organized by a pro-Hamas group, they claim it is a peaceful event.
The New York Philharmonic Orchestra has arrived in Pyongyang, North Korea, along with “175 journalists, staff members, and patrons”, making it the largest delegation of Americans to enter the country since the Korean War. What can cultural exchange do to soften the relations between the two countries?
Although I’m not too privy on the Oscars, I hear that No Country for Old Men took a few awards. Here’s the full list. Discuss.

That New York Phil trip is going to be fascinating to watch. Kudos to all involved for getting it off the ground. I can’t wait to hear about the experience.
Anyone seen “No Country” yet? I’ve heard it is amazing, but we’re probably waiting for Netflix (3/11) at this point.
Haven’t, but it’s on my list.
Israel is ‘responding’ to ‘Palestinian’ rocket fire again. The ‘liberal media’ is reporting these latest rockets are ‘of an Iranian design.’
Why don’t they just say it outright: The CIA is providing Iranian made rockets to extremists in Palestine to encourage what has long been a cash-cow of a military conflict, while simultaneously laying the baseless argumentative framework for the coming U.S.-Iranian war.
Damn the man. Long live Hamas.
