Midday Open Thread: Telecom Amnesty Struck Down In The House |
|
|
The House has rejected retroactive immunity for telecom companies by passing a compromise bill:
The House bill approved Friday includes three key elements: it would refuse retroactive immunity to the phone companies, providing special authority instead for the courts to decide the liability issue; it would add additional judicial restrictions on the government’s wiretapping powers while plugging certain loopholes in foreign coverage; and it would create a Congressional commission to investigate the N.S.A. program.
Only 11 Democrats didn’t sign onto this bill, which means 213 Democrats in the House voted like real Dems today. On top of that, these “Bush Dog” conservative Democratic Senators voted the right way last time:
Baucus (D-MT)
Bayh (D-IN)
Carper (D-DE)
Casey (D-PA)
Conrad (D-ND)
Inouye (D-HI)
Johnson (D-SD)
Kohl (D-WI)
Landrieu (D-LA)
Lieberman (ID-CT)
Lincoln (D-AR)
McCaskill (D-MO)
Mikulski (D-MD)
Nelson (D-FL)
Nelson (D-NE)
Pryor (D-AR)
Rockefeller (D-WV)
Salazar (D-CO)
Webb (D-VA)
Whitehouse (D-RI)
If they can do it, so can the rest of the stupid Senate. On to the next battle!
Thoughts?

So Kucinich voted the wrong way?
It was a protest vote. Typical Kucinich.
And McDermott too? If a real Democrat entails infringing on Fourth Amendment rights, I guess 213 did vote like real Democrats.
