Clinton’s Victory in Ohio: For What It’s Worth |
|
|
So, Hillary’s claim that “no person has ever won the White House without winning the Ohio primary, in either party,” has proven to be yet another lie; FDR, JFK, Wilson and Eisenhower all became president without winning Ohio’s primary.
“Maybe what she meant to say was, as far back as she can remember,” said Herb Asher, a professor of political science at Ohio State University. Yeah, maybe. Probably not though.
But that’s not the only problem with the importance placed on her performance in Ohio; a Cleveland Plain Dealer article states that, in Cuyahoga County alone, “at least 16,000 Republicans switched parties for the primary.”
That crossover voting, largely owed to Rush Limbaugh’s shenanigans, violates Ohio state law.
According to the msm, the Ohio results signaled a resurgent Clinton campaign. But “the comeback kid” was carried in part by people who most assuredly will not be voting Democrat come November, and the same can be said of Texas.
Many have commented on Obama’s potential disadvantage in Pennsylvania’s closed primary, where independents will have to register Democrat by March 24th in order to vote. But there’s an equal threat that Republicans, whose candidate is already assured, will again change their allegiance in an effort to help Hillary get the nomination. Let’s hope they aren’t as proactive as the independents.
For information on how to help mobilize Pennsylvania’s independents, check out Josh’s post on the same topic.

I have to say that I’ve been enjoying your not so subtle “Hillary Clinton is a liar” campaign over the last few weeks. While many of the lies that you have brought to attention are what many people would call “small” or “white” lies, I think they go to show that she is fundamentally dishonest. It is clear that this is something that is condoned in her family. And the truth of the matter (no pun intended, but I’ll take ‘em where I get ‘em) is that if you’re stealing with someone, you can’t expect them to not steal from you…So if she is willing to lie about what her daughter was doing on 9/11 maybe she is also lying about her knowledge about the events of 9/11…
I’m enjoying the Hillary lies campaign too. Keep it up LGS!

The Boston Globe actually looked through the exit polling data and figured out how many republicans voted for Clinton in the democratic primary with no intention of voting democratic in the november election:
100,000 in Ohio
119,000 in Texas
38,000 in Mississippi
Remember that Clinton won the Primary in Texas by about 101,000 votes (Obama won the Caucuses in Texas). And also, don’t forget that Bill Clinton appeared on Rush’s radio show on the day of the Ohio and Texas primaries.

While I agree it’s a bit egregious to say “recent history” and not include the past fifty years or so, she _does_, in fact, say, “no candidate in recent history, Democrat or Republican, has won the White House without winning the Ohio primary.” (see the transcript of her victory speech here: http://www.realclearpolitics.com/articles/2008/03/hillary_clintons_ohi o_primary.html)
That said, I’m 100% for Obama. But if you’re going to criticize her, get the quote right.
From time to time and for my personal amusement, I browse the comments on “Clinton vs Obama” postings. Generally, these fall into three seperate catagories:
1: Obama fanatics–these seldom have anything nice to say about Lady Clinton.
2. Clinton fanatics–these seldom have anything nice to say about Senator Obama, and are generally much more vitriolic than are the Obama fanatics’ comments.
3. Former Clinton fanatics who have, so to speak, “seen the light”. Often these are former trusted workers or officials of the Clinton campaign. These novice Obama fanatics are most vitriolic of all, but frankly they seem to be motivated less by love of Obama than by hatred of Clinton. Reminds me of a line from and old US song, “What we thought was an angel was a witch on a broom, wearing red silk stocking and the green perfume”!!
I find it very interesting that Lady Clinton does not have any former “class 3″ Obama fanatics on her team (at least, I know not of any).
I personally would perfer that Ron Paul be president, but I’ll go along with Obama (trying to avoid that old truism “the perfect is the enemy of the good”).
