Evening Open Thread: Going After McCain |

Because I don’t want to see a divisive primary cost Democrats the Presidency, I’m beginning to shift my focus a bit. While I love (love!) going after Democrats, especially Democrats who don’t actually talk or vote anything like real Democrats should, I’m warming up to this McCain bashing thing.
So, from around the blogosphere, your daily answer to the question of why McCain won’t be our next President:
First off, McCain continues to confuse Iran and Al-Qaeda. For a guy who’s supposedly running on his “experience” and his foreign policy ideas (read: more war), it’s surprising that he doesn’t seem to have even a basic grasp on how the Middle East actually works. I’m no expert, but at least I know Iran and Al-Qaeda don’t work together. Jonathan Singer has more:
With all of this in mind, I ask again: Even considering McCain’s apparent strength in polling, are Americans really going to elect someone who is fudging the facts about a purported relationship between Iran and Al Qaeda in Iraq in the immediate wake of a presidency in which the administration went to great lengths to allege a connection between Saddam Hussein and Al Qaeda in order to get the country behind a war in Iraq?
On top of that, McCain might not even be electable. Young people are turning out to vote in unprecedented numbers this cycle, and they don’t like McCain:
On trial ballots, McCain is at a 12-point disadvantage to Hillary Clinton (35%-47%) and a 30-point disadvantage to Barack Obama (27%-57%). In addition, his voters are notably less excited about his candidacy than supporters of Clinton or Obama. On a qualities comparison with Hillary Clinton, McCain has an advantage on just two qualities – being honest and trustworthy (35%-33%) and being a typical politician (32%-29%), in which his 7-point deficit is a positive. On a qualities comparison with Barack Obama, McCain has an advantage on just one issue – having the right experience to be President (48%-28%). In addition, McCain has a lower favorable rating (44%) than Congress (46%), Hillary Clinton (51%), and Obama (69%).
That’s right. He’s got a lower favorable rating than Congress! Amazing! This year might shape up to be a battle between the generations. I say, bring it on!
And last but not least, McCain’s staffers are getting fired for spreading racist videos through Twitter. Gotta love it when new technology trips up Republicans.
