Apparently intent on stripping away the last remnants of his positive public image, Clinton opened up to a group of veterans in North Carolina, sharing his feelings on a Clinton / McCain matchup in the general election:
I think it would be great if we had an election year where you had two people who loved this country and were devoted to the interest of this country.
That, presumably, is contrasted by an Obama / McCain matchup, with McCain’s representing the U.S. and Obama representing the Nation of Islam.
Naturally, the Clinton campaign told the public that Bill’s meaning was yet again misinterpreted. He was simply calling for renewed focus on the issues, not “falsely questioning any candidate’s patriotism.”
On the heels of the Jeremiah Wright incident, that sort of excuse is hard to swallow. Bill knew exactly what he was doing; watering the seeds of doubt planted by the controversy. It’s a shameless tactic, and an Obama aid was right to liken it to McCarthyism.
What is this bullshit? Why are the Clintons praising McCain at the expense of Obama? Why is anyone supporting a candidate who puts personal ambition ahead of the interests of the party?
I hope Obama does get the nomination b/c it’s getting really hard to consider voting for Clinton

obama is a christian… despite popular belief to a smear campaign. look it up. why do you think he would give at speach at MLK’s old church and all this hoopla about his former pastor…
