Midday Open Thread: Obama’s Coattails

Populista at DailyKos has a new project:

There is still a lot more work to do if we want to get Barack Obama elected. But if we want to truly change this country we need to do more then that. We need to build strong Democratic majority in the House and Senate committed to passing Obama’s agenda of change. In short we need an Obamajority.

He’s right. The President can only do so much.

It’s not secret that Obama is expected to do much better down-ticket as the nominee than Clinton. Even so, these down-ticket races need their support. If you can, chip in and help the campaigns.

Who else would you put on the Obamajority page? You can email suggestions to obamathon (AT) gmail (DOT) com.

Just to be fair, while Obama would be much more helpful down ticket in the West, Southwest and Great Plains, there are analyses that show Clinton would be more helpful in the Northeast through the mid-Atlantic. The difference is that there are mor competitive seats that could be Dem pickups in the strong Obama states, while the strong Hillary states don’t have as many competitive seats. But I am guessing candidates like Eric Massa and Dan Maffei in New York would prefer Hillary at the top.

You’re probably right. As you said, Obama helps where there are more and where they are more competitive. And if you believe the future of the Democratic party lies out West, Obama is your guy.
