Saturday Supper: Baldwin Ruminates on MLK and X |
|
|
A day after the anniversary of Martin Luther King’s assassination, here’s a contemporaneous take on the respective movements of Martin Luther King, Jr. and Malcolm X from one of America’s greatest intellectuals, James Baldwin. If you haven’t read Notes of a Native Son, now’s the time.

thanks lance, for posting that. good fellow, that james baldwin. i also liked the interviewer. do you happen to know who that is? though i’ve not read ‘notes of a native son’ and unfortunately don’t have time to do so, i’ll put it on my endless list of things to read. happy sunday…
glad you enjoyed it caspar. baldwin really was a great mind. as for notes of a native son, it should be required reading in american public schools, providing kids with an understanding of the racial relations in the united states. it’s a brilliant work. probably the best collection of essays I’ve ever read.
I’ll check out that book. If they are the best essays you’ve read then I’ll dive head first into that bitch. I haven’t watched the video yet but I will when I can. My fellow employees don’t appreciate my political videos or Philadelphia Eagle propaganda videos. They’re assholes.
