RFK on MLK

Two days late, but perhaps that’s better. After taking Friday to honor Dr. King, maybe we can take an additional moment to think on the political crossroads that the late 1960s represented, and on the roads not taken. And I don’t mean that America could or should have become a bastion of free love and flower children, but rather that we have instituted a culture of fear, mistrust, cynicism and arrogance in place of the culture of social justice and civic participation that has been offered to us at a few critical junctures in our country’s history, one of them being that time, another one being, perhaps, our own.
