Sunday Culture: Adverts

To contrast an article from our own Alex Thurston, here are two adverts near my spot in Brooklyn that cry out for comment.

Apparently the marketing department at the GMHC (the Gay Men’s Health Crisis) misinterpreted the organization’s role in the community, thinking their objective was condescension to both the gay and black community.

Remember when Champion was about boxing, football, volleyball, any any other sort of athletic endeavor? No longer. Now, apparently, it’s about seduction and/or sitting at home and masturbating.

Are they going to fight or kiss? It looks like the one kid in the hat wants to eat the kids lunch not hold his hand. As for the Champion ad….had they not placed ads like this they would have zero relevance. I haven’t worn anything Champion since forced to in 6th grade gym class. Good to see they outfit strippers who like licorice now too.
