Afternoon Open Thread: The Pope, Protests, and Presidential Debates |
|

Security is high in Delhi as the Olympic torch relay passes through; meanwhile Tibetan protesters have been arrested in Nepal and a prominent Tibetan activist has been detained in China.
The Pope gave mass to tens of thousands in Nationals Park today, praising the hope for the future that “is very much a part of the American character”.
But this story about the polygamy case surrounding members from the Fundamentalist Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints has trumped the pope on the front page of Nytimes.com.
And keeping with the religious theme, the New York Times offers some suggestions for Passover meals.
I missed the candidate debate last night, but from what I read, it wasn’t very good. From FP Passport:
After more than a year of campaigning, what new information are we possibly going to learn about these people beyond idiotic non-scandals like “bitter,” Wright, Tuzla airport, or last night’s underwhelming Bill Ayers bombshell?

That thing they called a debate was, without a doubt, the worst one of all 21 of them - and I’ve seen them all. It was as if the National Enquire moderated the debate. I didn’t learn anything new. That’s sad. Roadkill Refugee has a great video of Obama responding to the debate at http://roadkillrefugee.wordpress.com/2008/04/17/obama-in-raleigh-nc-di rt-off-my-shoulder/
It’s definitely worth viewing.
Thanks for sharing that video. Sounds like missing the debates saved me forty-five minutes of wasted time…
A good response from Obama, though the knife-twisting comment seems a bit beneath him. (We all know that’s how Hillary plays; he should stay out of it.)
L.D.S. TRUMPS POPE… your killing me..i bet mitt romney was behind this..i loved there vacant stares and no make up look..no bras no resistance..just a simple baby factory for the lord..n.b.c. a.b.c.and c.b.s all ran with it..all the cult experts were summond..it was waco with out the fire..mean while back in the pope mobile..yea hitler youth is a hard sawllow even in a pontiff..surely you were taught hate??hope you told bush he was going to hell.
Well, in all honesty, the New York Times online has a rotating front-page story…Then again, talk of the pope’s visit is a tired subject. There’s much more shock and awe in a story about children and polygamy…especially one involving the results of DNA tests.
