On “Mission Accomplished” Anniversary, It’s All About Bush |
|
|
It’s been five years since Bush somewhat prematurely declared “Mission Accomplished“. While most of us see this as a terrible miscalculation that has harmed the country, especially members of the military and their families, for Bush, it’s all about him (and all about bald-faced lies).
Dana Perino, Bush’s Press Secretary apologist, claims that the anniversary is really about “the price [Bush has paid] for not being more specific on that banner.” Yeah, that’s the ticket Dana. Poor Bush, who was terribly misunderstood when he played dress-up soldier for a day , and damn that press for continuing to “play this up” as Perino puts it.
It is breathtaking that Perino is still trying to pretend that this was just a case of imprecise wording on a banner. Can you get much lower than Bush trying to blame the Navy for his own incredible misunderstanding of what would happen in Iraq?Â
Note to George W. Bush and Dana Perino. This anniversary isn’t about any price Bush has to pay or failure to be specifically precise. We all know what the Mission Accomplished stunt was about–Bush wanted a triumphal photo-op celebrating an easy military victory. Instead, we all got five years and counting of a mismanaged, unwinnable war. Shame on Bush and Perino for not owning up to this and shame on the entire administration for not admitting the mistakes made and ending this misbegotten undertaking in Iraq.
