Media Taking Notice of McCain-Liddy Connection

by Chris Edelson  ::  Filed Under Elections 2008, Media Issues  ::  May 5th, 2008 @ 3:15 pm EST

A few weeks ago, I wrote about John McCain's ties to convicted, and unrepentant, Watergate felon G. Gordon Liddy.  A piece in yesterday's Chicago Tribune picked up on this shady connection, noting that McCain has "his own radical friend".  The Huffington Post, Daily Kos, and other outlets have also picked up on the story.

Well, The Seminal was ahead of the pack, but w're glad to see others noticing this connection as well.  Steve Chapman, who wrote the Chicago Tribune piece, says that  McCain campaign aides refused to answer questions about the subject.  Maybe Wolf Blitzer, Chris Matthews (unlikely), and Keith Olbermann (best bet) can press McCain for answers about his connection with Liddy, a convicted felon who calls McCain "a close personal friend" and has donated money to McCain over the past ten years.

This is the tip of the iceberg—there are many more shady/radical McCain connections to explore.  Looking forward to seeing the media explore each of them.

I don't know how this raises the bar on politics in America. What national politician doesn't have a few shady characters in their corner. Obama has that guy from the Weather Underground and Rev. Wright, while Hillary has Bill (which just about says it all). Maybe if we concentrated on the issues at hand - like winning the War in Iraq - rather than trying to find out who is lurking in every corner of American politics, we'd be better off.

I generally agree…I wish we didn't hear about Rev. Wright nonstop. But since we do, I think it's only fair for the media to spend some time examining McCain's own connections to shady/radical types like Liddy, the Revs. Hagee and Parsley, and others. If Rev. Wright is a household name. Rev. Parsley should be too

Didn't Momma ever teach you that two rights don't make a wrong? This is just lowering the common denominator.

May we please move on to the most pressing issue? Which one of these candidates is dedicated to upholding the Constitution and this frail Republic? The task has been laid down before us by men of magnitude and grace. Why do we soil the image and legacy of our most sacred creed? We are blind to the real purpose and inherited position of this government. Our hallowed Constitution was written for one reason, to restrain the government. The reason democracy and the republic are falling is due to our lazily letting them take what is rightfully ours - LIBERTY! Choosing from three wasted buffoons is not liberty or choice, it is bondage. We must work to make this country great again - without their help. They are obviously severely incompetent at handling the most menial of tasks, restraining themselves from taking too much power. It is now our time to take it back. Vote for liberty. Vote no confidence!

Oh, Roach, you speak so eloquently about nothing. You say alot of amusing things but you never address how hard this would be. You see I am a bleeding heart Liberal, and I don't think anyone should have to work hard. I want the government to own my job, my money, my stuff, and eventually me and everyone else around me will be owned by the same corporation. We'll all be so happy when the government continues to take more power and own our lives. They will definitely be able to keep us in check. Sure, maybe everything would be really candies and peaches because it has gotten that way consistently as they get more power and wealth. They are always so willing to give it back to us in little $600 checks. We don't deserve any liberty. We are scum.

Yeah, Liberal scum. Or, we could be gung ho about pestilence, greed, and death. We could be Neocons, bottomfeeders, chickenhawks. I desire liberty as well, but I would rather be a liberal than a stinking, slithering Neocon shill. These men are our enemies. These men are snakes. At least liberals will steal our money through an unconstitutional income tax and use it for something good, we hope. Neocons will use it for death. Nation building, Blood, Oil and currency - the real Union. Slugs of the Earth that must be stamped out, but let us not give up our liberty for either of these rancid monsters, liberals or Neocons. Let us take back the Republic with a vote of no confidence. Let us do our duty to the union! Thousands of men have died to preserve liberty. We must be prepared as well. The only difference - our enemies are running the show.
