I’ve probably watched this speech a dozen times (or rather, this video of this speech) over the last couple years. It’s important to remember that Wellstone was, IIRC, the only Democratic Senator up for re-election to vote against AUMF. He remains the pinnacle of Democratic courage and leadership based on principle.
He would’ve won too.
