Why is an Anti-Obama Smear Blog on Google News?

A few minutes ago I went to Google News and was slapped on the face with this: Does Obama Really Not Mind High Gas Prices (As Observed by GOP)? Ouch. The link was on Fox’s Embed Producers blog, which is written by nine bad motherfuckers.

Here are the last five headlines:

GOP sees blood in the water on Obama vetter

Johnson Steps Down as Obama VP Vetter

McCain shows no ‘love’ for Obama in Philly (with video of campaign footage and McCain ads)

John Kerry Weighs in on Jim Johnson Ordeal

“Centrist” Democrat won’t endorse Obama because of “liberal” record

Is this really the best source Google News could come up with when I loaded the page? All of this on a day in which John McCain once again said quite plainly that he intends to leave U.S. troops in Iraq for a really long time. Get. Out. Aside from the fact that it’s a plainly partisan and painfully boring blog, it gets worse.

The comment moderation policy is either weak, unenforced or nonexistent. There is absolutely no way a “news” site with as few comments as Embeds has an excuse for allowing things like this.

OBAMA HAS LONG LIST OF PEOPLE THET ARE LESS THAN REFINED. JOHNSON IS JUST THE MOST RECENT CHARACTER OF HIS LONG LIST REV WRIGHT, FATHER FFLEGER,TONY REZKO, LOUIS fARRAKHAN,BLACK PANTHER,AHMAD YOUSUS HAMAS,WILLIAM AYER,HIS WIFE AND TO MANY TO COUNT. HIS CONNECTIONS ARE BAD ENOGH BUT KNOW HE HAS ONE OF THEM PICKING OUR VP. I WANT TO KNOW WHAT THIS MAN HAS DO TO HAVE HIS SUPPORTERS FINALLY REALIZE HE IS A SCARY CANDIDATE.I’V BEEN A DEMOCRAT MY ENTIRE LIFE AND PERSONALLY CAN’T STAND BUSH BUT PERSONALLY I WOULD VOTE FOR HIM OVER OBAMA. GUARANTEED WITH HE AND HIS WIFE IN THE WHITE HOUSE OVERSEA WILL BE BUMPING INTO LAUGHTER AT OUR COUNTRY. BETWEEN HIS LACK OF EXPEIENCE, HIS CRYING AND WINING,WITH NO SOLUTIONS AND HAVING A 1ST LADY WHO HAS NEVER BEEN PROUD OF THIS COUNTRY GOD HELP AMERICA WHICH THEY DON’T UNDERSTAND BECAUSE FOR 20 YEARS THEY BELIEVED GOD D– AMERICA

If they really have so many comments they can’t moderate them, at least allow for community moderation so other users can downmod awful comments. If I saw a comment like that on The Seminal, I would delete it in a heartbeat. Actually, wait. Their comments require moderation (editor approval) to be published. Some enterprising young moron actually approved the above comment manually.

The posts rarely have links, and when they do, they’re almost all to either Fox or the same small set of pre-selected sources.

So why is Google legitimizing Fox, worse yet, legitimizing a mundane partisan shill blog, on their news portal? Seems at least borderline evil if you ask me. As it appears, all you need to do to be indexed is have editors.

To be included, an online news source typically must have an editorial staff or editorial review of its content, so the index largely does not include blogs, Mayer said.

It doesn’t mention anything about the quality or politics of the editorial staff. Imagine a young comedian in training blogger for Embeds, thinking about the good will he’ll develop with the boss by approving a nonsensical and hateful comment. I am probably asking too much, but I just wish Google News would limit itself to sources with at least some sense of either independence or balance.

As of a few weeks ago, Google News was the 10th most trafficked news website. It was directly behind… Fox News.
