The Cindy McCain Double Standard

by Chris Edelson  ::  Filed Under Elections 2008, Media Issues  ::  June 13th, 2008 @ 12:36 pm EST

CNN, Time and AP cheerfully report on wholly unsubstantiated rumors about Michelle Obama.   By contrast, there is silence regarding anything that puts Cindy McCain in a bad light, even when there are actual facts out there.  In the past (though not this year, as far as I can tell), there have been reports that Cindy McCain was addicted to prescription painkillers and stole pills from a medical aid charity she headed up.  Cindy McCain does not seem to deny any of this–in fact, there was a federal investigation into her activities and she had to enter into an agreement that limited her punishment to financial restitution and what sounds like a treatment program.

In addition, Cindy and John met while John was still married to his first wife.  According to the New York Times, John was “aggressively courting” Cindy while he was still married to his first wife, who had waited for him while he was a POW in Vietnam.  He married Cindy less than one month after divorcing his first wife.  John McCain sanctimoniously speaks of “protecting marriage” when he has done his bit to undermine the institution.

If CNN, Time, and AP can report completely baseless rumors about Michelle Obama, it only seems fair that they should spend some time reporting about troubling things Cindy (and John) McCain have actually done.

SOP - for GoPervs. Note that Bob Dole was nursed back to health and supported in his run for Congress also by that Old Thing - and went on to marry another - then there’s Newt. And the pattern continues. Do you really think Laurabot was responsible for w’s reformation? More likely the mommy $$ - happy Fathers’ Day.
