Evening Open Thread: Media on the Blogs |

Jane Hamsher calls the Associated Press “the dinosaurs of the Internet.” She’s right:
The AP will probably be slow to learn the lesson, because it will see no immediate impact if people like me won’t link to them any more because we don’t want to be sued. I mean in our world, how crazy is that? Like I’m going to sue Atrios for linking to me? That’s just insane. We live on traffic, our revenues are based on pageviews. The same can be said for the online outlets that the AP is selling its product to — newspapers across the country. It’s the Washington Post and the Houston Chronicle who will feel it if nobody will link to their AP stories. They are, in effect, buying a product that will not generate traffic they need in order to sell ads to support themselves.
Following up on my post this morning, sign onto the boycott, stop linking to the AP!
Oh, the old media! Will they ever learn? Vemrion has some choice words for them, considering they are completely ignoring Dennis Kucinich’s articles of impeachment:
“Liberal Media” my ass! The Media is fucking fascist, end of story. They are utterly controlled by the same corporate interests that control both major political parties. That’s why Dennis Kucinich is a pariah in his own party — he actually looks out for the Constitution and the rights of We The People. Such dedication to Liberty is considered treason in the bowels of both the Democratic and Republican parties.
So, what’s the solution here? Clearly, the old media is corporatist, corrupt, and unable to comprehend the Internet. Clearly, blogs are a good alternative. Expanding Internet access to those without it is good too. Less media consolidation might help as well. You could also support progressive authors.

Any other thoughts on how to make an end-run around the corporate media?

You might want to give the article below a read. It seems that there were 13 AP articles that were copied word-for-word and published on the site in question.

“Rogers failed to respond until May 14th due to a mix up with his mailing address at which point AP sent him a Take Down Notice for 14 other posts, 13 of which were whole text/exact headline posts to his site. Rogers disputed the 14th entry as fair use but took it down as required under DMCA.”
Dictator Bush is an idiot. Plain and simple, an idiot!

I saw a few interviews of Kucinich on the network morning news shows, and the interviewers were just horrible, they did not address issues but instead went on a witch hunt against him, obviously trying to discredit him. Meanwhile he was only one of 2 democrats that was really against the war, the other being Gravel, so obviously he had to be made a lesson of to others. There’s no doubt in my mind that both were deliberate attempts to discredit him. Folks, don’t watch TV, the vast majority of it it is propaganda, and will dumb you down to boot.
This must be a good article. I reprinted most of it on my blog and my ad revenues are already up a tad. Thanks for this, your article made me money.

The current Internet WILL be taken down. Just like TV and Radio was completely CENSORED. This is your last chance at True Knowledge. Download and save like a M*Fer.
Good point about the blog. However, our country is not turning into a dictatorship. We have the same system we always have had. The difference now, is that people in elected “Check and balance” positions have become sheep. That said, call me when a president manages to get term limits repealed, then we will be in a dictatorship.
Until you understand the “Clean Break Crowd” you will not understand how we got into the Iraq
Just to play devil’s advocate for a minute, here’s my take on things. With only about 6 months left to go, I think the reason this is largely being ignored is because it’s far easier and just as effective to just let the administration expire naturally rather than trying to speed up the process. And even if we do impeach, we then need to further impeach Cheney. All in all these proceeding would take longer than the 6 months it would take to just let it fade away. It’s a futile effort.
I say let history deal out the judgment. Its sting will be much more poignant in the long run, especially for a president known to be very concerned with his legacy.
Also consider that strong democratic support of this initiative will make them look vindictive and could hurt Obama’s chances…no reason to mess that up now. Look at the big picture…if we play it cool we’ll be ultimately achieving our goals.
Is the impeachment justified? It seems that it is. But if the ultimate goal is to remove Bush & Co. and replace him with someone we feel is better suited for the job, then by far the most effective course of action is to let McCain pander himself into a corner and vote for Obama this November.
To understand what really led us into the Iraq war and was ignored by the press then and now you must understand the “Clean Break Crowd”. Here it is from a recently retired US Senator (naturally it was ignored by the main stream media). This crowd has wasted more American lives than Bin Laden and nobody cares!

Huh? - I think you missed Ben’s point, just like Ben has appeared to miss the point of fair use (full reproduction of a work is obviously wrong, but quoting the original and including a link is fair)
The same could be said of what has happened to Ron Paul, and how he has been treated by so many different corporate party sponsors and the MSM.
There’s about 4-6 real politicians left who still think this whole system is supposed to work, and try wholeheartedly to make it work, they are usually buried quickly in one form or another.
MSM is nothing but distractive, ignore it if you can, it’s so mixed with falsehoods and propagandist slogans now that it takes more time to disseminate than it’s worth.
Cancel your cable tv or dish subscription. Stop watching and listening to the propaganda. I haven’t watched TV in a year and I feel so much better. My mind isn’t full of stupid jingles when I am trying to go to sleep, and I don’t have to listen to the ridiculous spin put on every news story. There are plenty of videos to watch online and much better sources of news. The best way to show ‘em we don’t need them is to stop buying their products.
Far easier, maybe. Just as effective? No freakin chance.
War crimes, voter fraud and criminal negligence by the leader of the “free” world can not be allowed go unacknowledged, because in effect it will mean that HE IS GETTING AWAY WITH IT.
This is complete and utter nonsense. 8 years of complete and utter nonsense. The ultimate goal is justice. The reason he must be held responsible is simple. If he isn’t, then it will be the foundation stones for the dismantling of everything this country has ever stood for and it will be a path all too easy for ANY FUTURE LEADER to assume.
Not to mention, whomever assumes this path will know that We The People allowed it to get this far, and that We would think twice before speaking up against them as well.
