Media Elites Give McCain Another Pass

Yesterday I worried that media elites would downplay Charlie Black’s assertion that a terrorist attack would be a “big advantage” for his boss, John McCain.  Last night on CNN, Gloria Borger dismissed it as “a one day story”.  Today on MSNBC’s Morning Joe, Mica Brzezinski declared this “a low level” controversy.

How do these decisions get made?  Who decides that Americans will hear about Rev. Wright every hour, on the hour (or more) for weeks at a time, but the Revs. Parsley and Hagee will go largely unmentioned?  Who decrees that a McCain adviser describing the possible death of Americans as “a big advantage” for his boss is no big deal?  Is this a snap judgment?  Cluelessness?  Internal bias, as Chuck Todd and others have suggested (i.e. John McCain can’t possibly make a misstep when it comes to national security).

I don’t know, but I am absolutely confident that if any Obama adviser said something even remotely like this, it would be much more than “a one day story” or “low level” controversy, and the adviser would be gone quicker than you can say G. Gordon Liddy
