Dodd for VP?

Raw Story reports Chris Dodd is being considered for Obama’s vice presidential slot. I sure hope so.

Barack Obama is considering picking Sen. Chris Dodd (D-CT) as his vice president, in a move that could calm rocky waters with the Democratic candidate’s progressive base.

Obama’s campaign has asked Dodd to turn over information as part of its VP vetting process, theAssociated Press reported Friday.

“There’s been some inquiries, yeah,” Dodd said. “They ask for a lot of stuff. I’ll leave it there.”

It wouldn’t excuse Obama’s bad vote on FISA, and his flip-flopping on the filibuster issue, but it would be a step in the right direction. More importantly, Dodd is an upstanding Senator, someone who loudly uses his platform to fight for change right now. That’s why I endorsed him for President.

And hey, he stood in the Senate for 10 hours, speaking out against FISA. He’s been a tireless champion of the issue. It would be wonderful to have a voice like that on board the ticket.

Another interesting point, Chris Dodd has a lot of experience. Now, I’ve argued before that Obama doesn’t need experience to win in November. He’s fought the change vs. experience battle with Clinton and he won. So, he has to be very careful picking someone for the VP slot “with experience,” as the wrong kind of experience would undermine his entire message. Basically, Obama can’t pick an “insider,” a corrupt Washington politician, as his vice president.

Chris Dodd, however, might be the right kind of experience for an Obama ticket. He’s been in the Senate forever, but he has a reputation - stoked during his presidential bid and after - of being a staunch advocate of his principles. That might be just the thing Obama needs.

Personally, having Dodd on the ticket would make me ecstatic. I hope it happens.

7 RESPONSES to “Dodd for VP?”

Dodd’s the man, alright. I wanted him for president until I really tried to imagine who he would be and how he would govern, given that position. All things considered, I don’t think I want him anywhere other than where he is right now.

He’s an advocate by nature and that’s what he should be doing. I don’t want his advocacy silenced by a more austere and necessarily more constrictive post.

If he’s VP, liberals lose the strongest, most thoughtfully deliberate voice they have in the whole damned Congress. All they get in return is a - more often than not - useless tie breaking vote. I don’t want Dodd turning into the Senate’s new fence riding, minute-keeper, middleman… presiding over the Congress, Al Gore style, and trying to be all even-handed with the enemies of liberty and justice.

I couldn’t stand the watered-down position spots Dodd ran during hid bid for the presidency and I’m sure I’d absolutely loath seeing him try to tote Obama’s bullshit “uniter” platform. Dodd is at his best when he’s unfettered by the eyes of popular media, and he doesn’t have to explain the concept of a three-branch government to the fools behind the Fox News desk.

Chris Dodd is the most experienced, war-worn, and yet, somehow, still virtuous, soldier-general in the liberal court. God forbid he lay down his sword to reach for a crown.

Let’s not make our finest advocate into a moderator.

Well, you may be right. Dodd is great where he is. But I’m not sure I necessarily share your dim view of the vice president’s office. The office seems to be what you make it - and certainly someone like Cheney, for better or worse, made it into something.

If Dodd decided to focus on something in that office, he could well make something of it.

Gee, I hope he does pick him. That would up the odds of Obama losing. And I for one certainly don’t want that criminal anywhere near the White House. Hopefully he’ll soon be behind bars with his buddy Rezco.

Tracy are you retarded or what? You must be one of those wingnuts who believe that Obama is a Muslim, he wasn’t born in this country etc. Why don’t you just face the fact that the real reason that you don’t want Obama is that he’s black. Obama had only a very tenous connection to Rezco, why don’t you try to read the facts instead of what the right wind gas bags are trying to feed you to keep you mind (and vote) controlled by corporate America. Grow up and use what little mind you have to think for yourself

Dodd is a crook. He’s willing to affect millions of people’s lives for the worse in order to save himself a couple of bucks.

Yeah, Sigma and Tracy,
I remember this one time when my dad was at work and my mom was in the hospital and I was home sick. But I was not so sick that I couldn’t take mom and dad’s car out for a spin while they were gone. I didn’t get caught and took the car home.

Sigma and Tracy, now that you’ve had a spin, put it back where you found it. It’s really great that you can really drive and all, it’s just that you don’t know what the car is for.
