Obama Will Win In Spite of the Traditional Media

It can get pretty frustrating watching cable news.  You end up seeing endless stories about Rev. Wright, celebrity ads insulting Obama, and McCain’s maverick image.  You don’t see much, if anything, about McCain’s Revs. Hagee and Parsley (hardly household names, unlike Wright), McCain’s own preening ambition and celebrity status, or McCain’s decidely unmaverick positions on Iraq, womens’ rights, tax cuts for the wealthy, or health care.

So it shouldn’t be a surprise that, even though the internet is positively buzzing over McCain’s inability to recall exactly how many houses he owns you won’t hear a word about this on CNN.  No, they were busy flogging a supposedly “developing story” on Obama and former Weather Underground member Bill Ayers.  I didn’t hear anything new or developing–just the same story we heard months ago-Obama once went to a fundraiser Ayers hosted and Ayers gave $200 to Obama some time.  CNN did mention that conservative bloggers were talking about this.

If that’s the test for getting something on CNN, where is the man of many houses story?  My theory: Wolf Blitzer and others on CNN (not everyone–not Lou Dobbs or Glenn Beck certainly) are personally moderate Democrats and are terrified of being labeled as biased in favor of Obama.  Therefore, they bend over backwards to “balance” things out by running stories that favor McCain.  (Of course, some media elites simply adore McCain–see Chris Matthews–that’s a different story).  In some ways, it might be better if every major network was a Fox News clone—at least it would be easier to expose the bias.

Here’s my challenge to CNN.  If you’re going to talk about Obama and Bill Ayers, when are you going to do a story on McCain’s friendship with convicted felon G. Gordon Liddy, a longtime McCain donor who describes McCain as “a good personal friend“?  Liddy was a Watergate burglar who later went on to advocate violence against federal agents, and his relationship with McCain is actually documented, unlike the nebulous Obama-Ayers situation.

Thank god for Keith Olbermann and Rachel Maddow–at least someone will discuss the yawning gap between McCain and ordinary life, as demonstrated most recently by his inability to remember exactly how many houses he owns.

In the end, though CNN and most traditional media is frustrating beyond words, I don’t think it will matter.  For weeks, they have argued that McCain is closing the gap and have asked why Obama isn’t ahead by a larger margin (despite the fact that he, Obama, has led in almost every poll).  I’m looking forward to seeing Obama in the context where he first came to national prominence–at the convention.  And I just saw a poll showing Obama up by 6.  Do your worst, Wolf.

Have you ever watched CNN (or the other news channels) at non-election times? It’s horrible. One of my keys to happiness (to be produced in my forthcoming book - Polemic Meanderer’s Three Keys to Happiness - How a Loser Overcame American Culture and Made Himself a $4.8 Millionaire - by the way, one of the other keys is cold showers) is not watching news of any sort. The noise ratio is overwhelming. The dying newspaper is the best source of news because you can just gloss over the stuff you aren’t interested in.

I will look for the book, PM. I noticed CNN Headline News was doing nonestop coverage of a missing child and her mom who is the suspected killer…that story seems to have dominated their coverage for months

I’ll be voting for Obama. I’m tired of paying child support and being told what to do by retarded female judges in Reno, Nevada. Obama will make it so father’s rights will have some muscle in the courts and guys like me, who work hard and suffer from retarded ex’s won’t have to pay alimony or child support.
