Early Voter Action on Election Day |
|
|
Gung-ho?
So you got your vote in early. Nice, but the work’s not done. Although the “vote early, vote often” days are behind us, we can still double our impact come Election Day.
Here’s the rub: voter lines are already stretching out around blocks and every sign points to a record turnout tomorrow. We all have friends who are working and can’t/won’t get away from the job to brave a six hour line. We all have friends who are prone to utter a “fuck it” and duck out after minimal inconvenience. Well, if you are fortunate enough to have the day free, why not offer your services as a placekeeper? or as a companion to an impatient friend?
In short, get out and be democracy’s keeper for the day. Deliver sandwiches to tired would-be-voters. Make soda runs. Bum out some cigarettes. Do whatever needs to be done to keep the enthusiasm up. Not only will you ensure that your friend votes, your presence at the polling station will signal a renewed and robust democratic participation.
PS, Short on friends but not on talent? pick up your juggling sticks, unicycle, or any other circus accessory and take it down to the polling station. Make sure the voters in the queue are entertained and STFIL.

Great tips. I already planned on making some overly spicy finger food and 35 life-size Hillary Clinton blow up dolls to the folks waiting in line by my crib but your tips are just f’n Turbo!
Didn’t want to put it directly into the post, but truth is I’m handing out arms to those in the voter lines. You know, just in case.
