BREAKING: Schakowsky Will Run For Senate In Illinois |
|
|
Last night at the Midwest Academy Awards and 35th Anniversary Celebration in Washington, DC, Ohio Senator Sherrod Brown introduced Illinois Representative Jan Schakowsky by saying, “We may have a special election in Illinois, and if Jan Schakowsky runs, I’ll support her.”
At the end of her speech, Schakowsky threw her hat in the ring, announcing that she was “passing around a clipboard” for people to sign up to be on an organizing committee for her “Senate race, and a basket for donations will follow right behind.” The audience cheered.
As Ian has noted, there may be a special election in Illinois to fill the open seat. As a signer to the petition to draft Schakowsky to this seat, I’m happy that she’s officially announced.

Excellent news! She was one of Obama’s earliest supporters, back during the Senate primary in 2004 when he was a longshot. And she’s a great progressive with a great record on labor and other issues. She would definitely get my vote if I lived in Illinois.
BTW, are you still registered in Illinois? If so you can vote for her in the primary.
Her problem? Her husband, Rob Creamer, is a convicted criminal and was a political consultant for Daley and … Rod Blagojevich. The dems cannot pick any Chicago politician connected to the Chicago machine.
