Reagan, Obama and History’s Circuit |
|

The history books all agree that their subject is cyclical, right? Well then, here’s a prediction following from that assumption:
It’s 1984. After weathering the largest recession since the Great Depression, as well as a sharp drop in his initially robust approval ratings, President Ronald Reagan opens the successful 1984 L.A. Olympics in the state he used to represent (the first Olympics to turn a profit since 1932). The Games are a point of pride for a President who has 1.) restored faith in his position after the crimes of Nixon and the the lackluster presidencies of Ford and Carter, and 2.) is leading the global fight against communism.
Subtly taking ownership of the renewed patriotism in America with ads like the one below, Reagan wins the 1984 election in one of the largest Presidential Election landslides ever.
It’s 2016. After weathering the largest recession since the Great Depression, as well as a sharp drop in his initially robust approval ratings, President Barack Obama opens the successful Chicago Olympics in the state he used to represent (the greenest Olympics in history). The Games are a point of pride for a President that has restored domestic and international faith in his country after the debacles of Afghanistan and Iraq, and, due in large part to a Green Revolution, is leading the global fight against climate change.
Taking advantage of all these gains, the Democratic nominee for president takes subtle ownership of the renewed patriotism with ads that contrast this “new morning” to the twilight of the Bush years. It is the culmination of an 8-year long process of reclaiming patriotism for liberals; never again will the right monopolize the term. The Democratic nominee wins the 2016 election in one of the largest Presidential Election landslides ever.
I don’t think Vegas would give it good odds. But if Chicago (my hometown) gets the bid and Dems (my party until something better comes along) play their cards right, this horse could come in.

Videos are very emocionantes.
Our remember beautiful times, at least from my point of view because I am looking from another point, and as a foreign. However, I can see a lot of respect, is another time.
I hope to read your article in more detail.

Yes, history’s cyclical. You’ve chosen a cycle preferential to your views.
It would be just as easy to make the comparison with Jimmy Carter:
Following an unpopular conservative administration, Carter started his presidency with “robust ratings” just like Obama’s.
His election promises were eerily similar to Obama’s:

Who knows, maybe it takes another Carter to get another Reagan……….
