A Stain to Erase in the Republican Party

by Chris Edelson  ::  Filed Under Republicans  ::  June 21st, 2009 @ 12:10 pm EST

As Cosanostradamus pointed out in a comment, politicians and pundits have, so far, generally been silent when it comes to responding to the pattern of Republican elected officials, staffers, and activists making racist comments about President Obama and his wife.  I was glad to see Kathleen Parker break some of the silence in today’s Washington Post.  Parker lives in South Carolina and her piece mainly focused on the question of whether that state can put an end to “race-based politics”–  her piece is entitled “A Stain to Erase in South Carolina.”

The focus ought to be on the Republican party itself, not just one state.  At the end of her piece, Parker finally notes that “If Republicans ever want to see the Oval Office again, they’ll have to purge their tent of this foul air.”  That’s the real point–not that there’s a stain to erase in South Carolina, but that there’s a stain to erase in the Republican party–a stain we’re reminded of by the racist comments about Obama, but also a racial stain that goes back to Richard Nixon’s southern strategy, Ronald Reagan’s Philadelphia, MS speech about state’s rights, the 1988 Willie Horton ad, and decades of racial code words used for political gain.    It’s past time for Republican leaders to respond to the string of racist comments spewing forth from their party, and it’s past time for them to address the stain that decades of racial politics has left on their party.

10 RESPONSES to “A Stain to Erase in the Republican Party”

This is why I get most of my news from blogs and the aggregations of world media by Google & Yahoo. I can’t stand to watch all the rank corporate propaganda on my teevee machine any more. I barely watch Keith & Rachel, Stewart & Colbert because I might accidentally see or hear Gingrich or O’Reilly. I have to think of my blood pressure. If I avoid them I can keep eating salt. And I loves me some salt.

What I hate is the endless screed of hateful sh*t from the Right. I simply do not listen to them at all. Why should I? They’re wrong, they lost, they’re losers and they have nothing to say. I’ve been hearing it over and over for more than forty years. It never changes. I don’t need to hear their crap ever again. It’s time they all went away.

I don’t consider any of them to be funny. Certainly not Rush Limbaugh. All that comes out of his obese mouth is bile. When I hear a piece of trash like Sarah Palin attacking a genuinely funny guy for a genuinely funny joke about her slutty daughters, all I can say is, FU, Honey –You brought ‘em out on stage with ya! Big bellies and all! And we’re still ten million bad jokes behind Rushbo. Let’s hear a bunch of squawking suburban robots show up outside Limbaugh’s studio next time he opens his foul mouth. Or Savage Weiner or G. Gordon Liddy or the rest of that subhuman filth.

Since the Repukelickin’s won’t go away, it’s high time for a beat-down. They’re typical bullies, and if you don’t knock them out cold, they’ll just go on and on, getting bolder as they go. If we don’t cut them off at the knees right now, we’ll be in Nazi territory soon. Their vanguard is already there. We have to let our “liberal” Democratic politicians and pundits know that we hold them responsible for everything that the extreme Right says or does from now on. America is sick of it, but we’re even sicker of the Dems silence and collaboration with them. It’s time to pick a side and fight. Or do we want to wait till lynchings come back in? That would be this summer, some time.

Call them out on every racist remark. Laugh in their stupid faces every time they open their mouths. Remind America every hour, every day of all the crap the Repukes have pulled, and the mess they alone got us into. Start prosecuting them. Bust up their little clubhouses. Run them out of business for good. Let the wingnuts join the Libertarians. The ‘Puke’s are no longer a legitimate Party. They’re the g*dd*m Ayatollahs, not the reformers. Enough!

thanks Cosanostradamus. as I noted in another post, it’s astounding that Pat Buchanan is a fixture on cable news given that he heads up an organization that is engaging in scapegoating of minorities.

I would certainly like to see better responses by Democrats to Republican racist remarks. Since the Dems are asleep on the job, though, others will have to point out just how extreme today’s Republican party is.

Cos– You are epitomizing your affiliation with so called right wing extremist that are in reality left wing. You get most of your news from blogs! No wonder you are so misinformed. Garbage in garbage out!

Say it ain%u2019t so Edelson! Your at it again spreading lies, deceptions and massive distortions. I can understand Cosan because he revels in vile untruths but you are more insidious. You take one individual in South Carolina and attribute it to an entire party. Well, I guess before I call you an outright liar, I should give you the opportunity to defend yourself and provide the statements of racism that you attribute to the Republican Party. You are playing with fascist tactics and turning into a pure propaganda blogger. Good for the Nazi%u2019s- not good for the truth.

Here are no less than five statements of outright racism aimed at Obama and his wife from your precious Republican party:

Polemic– Your falling into the trap! You give me examples of what the left says Republicans have said with no other sources other than Leftist blogs. You can%u2019t even prove that the left made this stuff up and blamed others for it to advance their cause. Where is the real material? Same thing the Nazi’s pulled– lies and propaganda. Don’t give me blogs as official sources-give me proof. The one instance I do know of was the South Carolina moron. In fact, it was on this very blog that I commented on the moron that said it. I can’t find my comment if its still here. If it%u2019s not what does that tell you? Now, let%u2019s look at the vileness that liberals spew on a routine basis. You sensitive individuals defend Letterman calling women sluts and sex with a 14 year old, call U.S. troops (defending your rear ends) everything from terrorists, to murderers, child killers etc., the President a liar during a time of war and giving your own democratic congressmen a pass and routinely file charges of racism for the slightest common sense opposition. Your disgusting! Yes, use your sensitivity on calling all politicians what they are with factual, thoughtful statements. However, I realize that the Nazi models are easier to follow. Use proof Poly not crap.

Cos– You can’t handle the truth so you want to silence those that tell it. Typical Nazi tactic.

Time to start erasing stains from the Democratic party. You are corrupt, tax dodgers, extorters and now accepting bribes– Where does it stop?

ABC employees donated heavily to Obama

As indignation turned to outrage Thursday among critics of an ABC News prime-time special on President Obama%u2019s health care policy, The Washington Times has learned that ABC employees gave 80 times as much money to Mr. Obama%u2019s 2008 campaign for president than to his rival%u2019s.
